Our Team

Lana Alexandra Abrera

Lana graduated from UC Davis with a B.S. in Cognitive Science (Neuroscience Emphasis). During her undergraduate years, she worked as a research assistant in the Neural Mechanisms of Attention Lab, helping with eye-tracking and scalp EEG data collection and analysis. In this lab, Lana is excited to conduct research on developing neurorehabilitation methods for patients with spinal cord injuries. She is also particularly interested in the underlying neural mechanisms of the restoration of sensorimotor functions during the rehabilitation process. In the future, Lana hopes to do research using neurophysiology and neuromodulation techniques to advance diagnostic criteria and symptom treatments for neurodegenerative diseases. In her free time, Lana likes baking, crafting for her friends and family, and playing cozy games!

Junior Specialist

Judith Essemiah

Judith is a first-year Ph.D. student born in the Netherlands. She is currently working as a rotational student in the Calvert Lab, where she is excited to delve further into the world of sensory/motor neurorehabilitation and neuroengineering. In her free time, she likes to cook, weight lift, and explore new cities!

First Year Rotating Ph.D. Student

Parker Gibson

Undergraduate Researcher

Parker is a third-year biomedical engineering student with an interest in advancing treatments for neurological conditions through adaptive neural interfaces and implants. Outside academics, he enjoys hiking, running, playing card games, and practicing the piano.

John Mkrtichyan

John is a Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior major at UC Davis from San Francisco, California. He comes from an Armenian, Ukrainian, and Jewish background, and is interested in pursuing a career in neurotechnology and neuroengineering, with a particular focus on neurorehabilitation and translational neuroscience. Outside of the lab, he plays for the UC Davis club soccer team and enjoy staying active.

Undergraduate Researcher

Stephanie Atampugre

First Year Rotating Ph.D. Student

Stephanie is a first-year Ph.D student in the Biomedical Engineering department. Her current interests lie in engineering neural interfaces to restore sensory/motor function. Outside the lab, she enjoys side questing with friends and family, reading, and playing pickleball.
